Autumn brings mixed feelings as far as our
attitude toward the seasons is concerned. It is a time of
football games, higher heating billings, a nip in the air, and
a general feeling of excitement because of halloween, Thanksgiving,
and Christmas.
Sometimes, holidays are also times of
sadness for many members of the family of God, because
unfortunate incidents occur on holidays. Remembering this, we
should be prayerful for each member of our church family, and
solicit the protection of heaven's host for each member of our
congregation.
My prayer is that each member of the First
Baptist family would use this time to pause from our activities to
thank God for where He has brought us from, and then thank God
for where we seem to be going. I trust that you would thank
Him, not only for the wonderful things He has done, but thank Him as
well, for those great things He will do in our
lives.
Finally, let us remember that the purpose
of Thanksgiving is not to thank God for our dinner, but it's time
when we thank God for our salvation. It's a time when we
rejoice because we know that we're on our way to Heaven in spite of
the adversities. It's a time when we thank God for giving us
victory over oppressive circumstances.
That's really something to
be thankful
for!
