Dr. Carl Bentley, Senior

Dr. Carl
Bentley is a native of Roanoke, Virginia. He met the Lord at an
early age, as a member of the High Street Baptist Church in
Roanoke.
Pastor Bentley was called to the ministry in 1975, and
preached his trial sermon at Faith Temple Church of God in Christ in
Hampton,
Virginia. He entered seminary at
Howard
University in
Washington,
DC, in 1979, and earned the
Master of Divinity Degree in Religion and Pastoral Counseling in
1982, and the Doctor of Ministry Degree in Religious Education in
1988. After graduation, he worked
as a geriatric and admissions chaplain at Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital
in Washington,
DC, for two years.
He served as the Youth Pastor at the Living Word COGIC in
Landover,
Maryland for two years. Pastor Bentley was called to
the pastorate of First
Baptist
Church in October of
1985. At First Baptist,
Dr. Bentley leads the teaching, broadcast, healing and music
ministries of the church.
Dr. Bentley is also an educator. He has earned the Bachelor
of Science Degree in Elementary Education from
Hampton
University and the Master
of Science Degree in Adult Education from Virginia Tech. He has been a teacher in
Fairfax
County since 1983. For the past ten years, he
has taught twelfth grade History and Government at the
Bryant
Alternative High
School.
Dr.
Bentley has been involved with various religious and music
conventions. He has
released two record albums and holds membership in the National
Religious Broadcast Association. He enjoys running, swimming, and weightlifting. His favorite team sport is
basketball, but his favorite pastime is prayer.
