WELCOME TO PENTECOST

Pentecost is a season that commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit during the Jewish "fiftieth day" celebrations in Jerusalem. Pentecost is celebrated seven weeks (50 days) after Easter Sunday, hence its name.  Pentecost falls on the tenth day after Ascension Thursday.  Among Christians, Pentecost recognizes the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus who were gathered in an upper room, as described in the second chapter of the Acts of the Apostles. The historical narrative tells that the Holy Ghost filled all who were gathered, and as a result of this phenomenon, they spoke in another language as the Holy Spirit gave utterance.

Pentecost is sometimes described as the "Birthday of the Church." The church was born because the early Christians continued steadfastly in the Apostles Doctrine and fellowship, with gladness, singleness of heart, and the breaking of bread. These traditions have continued until today, and therefore, the church is still strong today. As we celebrate the birthday of the church, let us remember the importance of continuing daily in the Apostle’s doctrine and fellowship by reserving a time for daily Bible Study and meditation. As we fellowship with one another, let us also remember the importance of making ourselves available to the Holy Ghost that he might guide us into all truth. Welcome to Pentecost!

In so doing, the Lord will open our eyes and show us those to whom we should be ministering.  The harvest truly IS plentiful.
